London’s Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC) helps businesses prevent and tackle online fraud and other web crimes. The BID recently hosted a team from the CRC who gave local retailers advice. We’ll be hosting more sessions in the future but until then, take a look at these tips from the CRC to help your business stay safer online:

  • Use strong passwords and two-step verification to boost protection.
  • Keep software up-to-date to maintain overall security.
  • Install up-to-date antivirus to detect and remove malicious software from devices.
  • Back up your data to ensure continuity in the event of a cyberattack.
  • Enable a firewall to block unauthorised external connections.
  • Maintain staff training and awareness to minimise vulnerabilities.
  • Develop an incident response plan.
  • Develop a company-wide cyber-security policy so staff are aware of behaviours, responsibilities and requirements when working in an online environment in the office and remotely.
  • Restrict user privileges for greater control over your data.
  • Do not connect to public WiFi or if you have to, use your phone’s hotspot or a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

For more resources, visit the CRC website here. The BID has joined up with the London Cyber Resilience Centre and is looking to run information sessions for businesses. We are looking for businesses or multi-use buildings where we can offer more in-depth sessions. If you are interested in participating, email Jan@angelislington.london to register your interest.
